More About Dr. Dil

Born in Germany to parents of Sri Lankan descent, Dr. Dilhani Uswatte immigrated to Canada at the age of two and moved to Hoover, Alabama in 2000. She’s been an educator for the past 24 years. For the last six years, she’s been the principal of Rocky Ridge Elementary School.

Dr. Dill has been inducted into the Alabama Teacher Hall of Fame, received the Milken National Educator Award, the Alabama Educational Leader of the Year award, and was named National Distinguished Principal in 2020. Her school was also one of the first elementary schools in Alabama to earn the international STEM accreditation through AdvancEd.

She’s married to Dr. Gitendra Uswatte, a clinical psychologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Dil is the mother to two teenage boys, Suman and Asel.
