Kristin Neff | The Power of Practicing Fierce Self-Compassion
“The more compassion you give to yourself, the more you have available for others.” — Kristin Neff
Many of us prioritize compassion for others, but what about compassion for ourselves? This week, hear from a pioneer on mindful self-compassion, Kristin Neff. As a bestselling author, co-founder of the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, and an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin, Neff is at the forefront of self-compassion research.
Over 20 years ago, Neff was part of the first empirical studies on self-compassion. Most recently, Neff’s work focuses on balancing personal self-acceptance with the courage to make the changes needed to live a happy, successful life.
In addition to her numerous academic articles and other writings on self-compassion, Neff is the author of Fierce Self-Compassion: How Women Can Harness Kindness to Speak Up, Claim Their Power, and Thrive and Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself.
Neff also co-developed Mindful Self-Compassion, a widely-supported training program, with her colleague Dr. Chris Germer. Today, it’s taught worldwide by thousands of instructors. Together, they wrote the Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook and Teaching the Mindful Self-Compassion Program: A Guide for Professionals.
In this wisdom-packed episode of Leading with Genuine Care, you’ll learn about growing a practice of self-compassion, the science and psychology behind the benefits of compassion, and why being kinder to ourselves can change our lives in more ways than we could ever imagine.

This advanced workshop is focused on an aspect of self-compassion most people aren't familiar with - its fierce side. Whereas tender self-compassion involves “being with” ourselves in a compassionate way, fierce self-compassion involves taking action in the world to protect, provide and motivate ourselves.
