Pawan Gupta | By Listening to People’s Needs, This Founder Is Transforming Traditional Education
“Teach them how to be—not how to appear to be.”
Amazing education shouldn’t exist as a one-size-fits-all system according to Pawan Gupta. With an education in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi, Pawan has been an advocate for quality education tailor-made for each unique community and every student. As the founder SIDH, an NGO based in the Himalayas of India, Pawan turned away from mainstream educational practices and built alternative schools and systems perfectly equipped for those they serve.
Over 30 years ago, Pawan launched SIDH after realizing that the generic education taught to kids in rural India didn’t fit their actual needs. Today, Pawan and his team remain committed to designing schools that integrate the aspirations, ecology, demographics, and culture of these communities. He also writes and speaks worldwide on alternative education models and how other leaders can create similar successes.
